Putting Our Differences Aside
Partisan programming screaming news that isn’t really news
Messages to push one program or another and don’t forget the propaganda
Division, division, and more division, manageable groups, easier to control
Not just on the opposite banks of one river, but islands and beaches too
Subjected daily to the never-ending storm of talking points
My side, your side, and the thousand other sides, maybe no side
In the end, most of them don’t really matter to the majority
Most are from the demands of a few, the wanna-be power brokers
The ones who sit in Chambers, arguing over things no one wants
Refusing to bring the will of the people to the public square
Whatever happened to coming together, rising up as one?
It’s like we’ve forgotten that we all rise under the same golden sun
We all eat, walk, speak, cry, worry, wonder, and imagine the same
True, the subject may differ, and the mannerisms differ too
But in the end, what we are is what we are, Americans, each and all
Never, not a single day, will pass when all of us agree
But America isn’t an all for one, one for all, kind of a nation
We’re about what’s doing best for the majority, most of us you see
Yet somehow, we’ve lost that unity, that together need to be free
Special interests have taken over, so much that we’ve lost our way
Narrow agendas amplified, and don’t you dare question them
Money, money, and even more money flowing into deep pockets
Selective facts, soundbites, and information overload
Feet on the street, paid protestors leading the unassuming masses
Framed as win/lose, all or nothing, and threats to our Democracy
Anti this, anti that, which Party, which politician, where’s the funding
Free this person, this country, stop this war but let’s start another
And where’s the message coming from, who’s paying the bill
In the old days, people wanted answers to get an understanding
Before they blindly picked up the pre-printed protest signs
It’s not that hard to take pause and use your voice for understanding
Putting our differences aside isn’t a grand gesture, it’s an act of thinking
Blind trust only leads to blind faith, blind followers, and blind living
Open your eyes and see, stop listening to what they force feed you
Make your own decisions, and never, ever, stop asking questions
