The Silver Tongue Dance

Ah, dear sarcasm, your razor blade of speech
Subtle slice of bolder truths, yet forever out of reach
The object of the issue, so sly in your disguise
Battle ready, dressed in armor, the trigger in your eyes
You sit the fence, mulling bitter and the sweet
Unwitting foe’s await, their destruction soon complete
Sharp laughter your dagger, that smile a vivid snare
Conflict rewards you, yet nothing you’ll share
This skirmish well planned, tactics engaged
Entry with wonder, dismiss them with rage
Well planted compliments, until ice fills the air
One moment they’re laughing, the next finds despair
Confusion meets stumble, then sweet trip and a blush
Yet sided with time, your schedule no rush
A true master of pause, you’re the king of the glance
Each statement rehearsed, for this prickly word dance
You’re the spice in the pot, the spark in the dark
A glowing hot ember, guaranteeing a mark
Your silver tongue dance, such grace ladled in
If guilt had a conscious, this motion a sin
Yet, my double-edged friend, please now make me aware
For your sarcastic charm often muddles the air
It stings without warning, wounds without will
Moments of tidings, brought suddenly still
The question is why, what drives this sharp game
And follow up still, sir, have you no shame
A knight in a joust with a trickster’s pert dream
Invoking the darkness with a mantle of cream
But alas, when thoughts twist you to much crueler forms
Narcissist leanings in the guise of new norms
And there’s your sly smile, holding something profound
Facts draped in sneering, yet still truth all around
Our reminder that wit is a dangerous friend
And even fresh sharpened tongues must know when to bend
Surrender you say, perhaps call a draw
Hold tight to your words, ignore what you saw
My call falls on deaf, and as I expected
Your choice has been made, subject selected
Now dance, silver tongue, in your eloquent way
Twist light into gloom, turn bright into gray
We’ll await without breath to find out what you hide
Your sarcastic wit, still forever our guide

I write about everything and sometimes nothing at all. I'm fascinated by old things, rusty things, abandoned places, or anywhere that a secret might be unearthed. I'm passionate about history and many of my pieces are anchored in one concept of time or another. I've always been a writer, dating back to my youth, but the last decade has been a time of growth for me. I'm continually pushing the limitations of vocabulary, syntax, and descriptive phrasing.
