Digging up Dreams

Dream

Most times it is unfulfilled dreams that keeps one alive. But when those dreams involved the person you loved, they become nagging memories of what could have been. I have always had the courage to dream big; with that you have the courage to face great failures. With a heavy heart, I reluctantly accept the charred remains of my once vibrant dreams, their ashes staining my soul with sorrow. The weight of the ashes from my unfulfilled dreams settles upon my shoulders, the heaviness of this missed opportunity and regrets suffocating my spirit. Every once in a while, you have to sit down, pull out the memories, and start digging up dreams.

Last night at midnight, I cleaned out the old desk drawer,

Found an old picture of us, and I stared at it ‘til past four.

God, I knew better than to start digging up dreams,

Here I was flooded with memories, or so it would seem.

Read some or our love notes till the break of dawn,

Digging up dreams, hard to believe they are all gone.

Sadness engulfed and overwhelmed me digging up dreams,

Deep into the new morning, trying to ponder what it all means.

Yeah, this day, I’m sitting alone, digging up dreams,

Missing the laughter, and our day and nightly routines.

Across the house, I see things that remind me of you,

Countless memories, digging up dreams. Who knew?

To the odd places we both loved, no more trips,

Digging up dreams, feeling my heart flutter and skip.

Exhuming memories of dreams that’s better left alone,

Thought I would reach out but sat down the phone.

Last night at midnight, I cleaned out the old desk drawer,

Found an old picture of us, and I stared at it ‘til past four.
