Who Dares to Catch the Falling Knife

Who dares to catch the falling knife

Sleight of hand, lapse of life

Chance to sink, perhaps to fly

Open wounds of days gone by

Sense the lift of taking flight

Warming thought and coming light

Number steps with no depart

Finish now before you start

Resist the reach, the past has passed

World has filled with shadows cast

Focus on the glinting steel

Not the sharpness that you feel

Memories haunt of anger gone

Different road that now you’re on

The falling knife a constant test

Subtle dreams, hammered chest

Breaking point with rust and dull

Memories within your skull

Always there but lost to sight

Banished day yet find the night

Slip in your dreams

Or what it seems

Moments when you had no fight

Stinging pain, acrid bite

Sharpened words

Pointed heard

Escape, no chance

Assumed the trance

When tempest passed a tepid calm

Forgo the times of begging alms

Deep inside the capture held

Fetid dark eternal cell

The falling knife a widened stance

Waving sharp on every chance

Terror tricks to bind your hands

Weakened knees refuse to stand

The final cut that drives the fear

Chained your soul to staying here

Choosing comes without a sound

Climbing up to higher ground

Passing through the trapping sand

Silence waits the knife to land

Echo of the final cut

Closing words, the story shut

Gathered all to grab the blade

Looking front, the choice is made

The choice is life

Without the fright

An open door

This box no more

Finally now you’re in control

Finally now, feeling whole

I write about everything and sometimes nothing at all. I'm fascinated by old things, rusty things, abandoned places, or anywhere that a secret might be unearthed. I'm passionate about history and many of my pieces are anchored in one concept of time or another. I've always been a writer, dating back to my youth, but the last decade has been a time of growth for me. I'm continually pushing the limitations of vocabulary, syntax, and descriptive phrasing.
