The “Was” Poem…a Poem About “Was”
I was contemplating the word: “Was”…and felt certain there was something to it which gets overlooked in our regular every day thinking. The usage of “Was” is very common…when it comes to using words. Surely, there is more to “Was”…then what I was thinking?
Then again…What was I thinking?
Eventually…everything becomes a “Was”. Why, you say? When does something become a “Was”? Well…it just does become “Was” because it just does.
How can it go from being an “Is” or “Were” to a “Was”? Well, it happens…most of the time…really…it just does…and it’s just because!?

Here goes the Poem:
The “Was” Poem…a Poem About “Was”
“Was”… always has…because it “was”…
“Was”… is everything in the past…Why? Well… just because.
“Was” did…what done never does…
“Was” is to done…as did is to “Was”.
I “Was”… going to say something else…but that “was“ how I used to say it…
“Was”… is the kind of word…that’s all about what “was”…when you decide to display it.
All things that “was” really “was”…come from things that are behind us now…
What “was” it…that I was going to say…I forgot now…anyhow.
When I “was” this…or when I “was” that…
Is all in the past…not where we currently are at.
I “was” there long ago…
How I ended up here…I’ll never know.
What “was” I doing…when I suddenly…got off course…
What direction “was” I heading to…When I fell off my horse?
‘Was”…says a little…”Was” says a lot…
When some people say “Was”…”Was” is all they got.
I would like to always say there are many things I am doing…instead of many things I “was” doing…
I would hope that each day of my life…is full of many different things…that are perpetually renewing.
Because to always say it “was” this…and it ”was” that…is trite and simply boring…
I‘d like to tell ya’ I “was“ paying attention to what “was” said …but really I was snoring.
We have done things that way because…We once did things that way once before…
We do things like that now because that’s how we did it…However, we don’t do anything like that anymore.
That “was” how I felt…when I first wrote all these words down…
I’m not sure what I am doing now…when my “was”…is not around.
It seems I “was” about to mention…the folly of all that “was”…is…
If “was” is what “was”…then “is”…is a way of thinking…that I can’t dismiss…
What “was” I thinking…I am not sure…I “was” clearly…out of my mind…
If I “was” doing something that way…that “was” not the way to do it…I must get it right next time.
“Was” and does…Did and done…
Some words don’t make much sense…though I tend to want to use them…just for fun.
I “was” going to write something else…but it “was” about something else I “was” thinking…
My Mama said I “was” going to be great…not maybe…
To be what I “was”…I “was” certain…I would be…
To go where no one does…I sure “was” thinking…that would be me.
Yet…that “was” then…and this is obviously not where I “was” going…
I “was” happy to have learned so many different things…I hope they were all worth knowing.
I am beginning to wonder what the definition of “was”…really is…
Like a certain politician who tried to define what “is” “was” …in reference to an intern of his.
But…that “was“ before I used “was” so much…that I “was” lost in my own comprehension.
To truly define what “was” is…you must know what it does…
“Was’ is used for things to say what happened or once “was”.
It’s funny that…the best way to describe “Was”…comes from things that happened before…
“Was” is “Was”…that’s just the way it is…(or “was”) … “Was” can also mean it is no more.
When I “was” a little-bitty boy…I was content to be who I “was”…
Now that I am older now…I would like to see things simply…just as that little boy does.
“Was”…A word that comes to us from a past…that once “was”…
“Was”…Can just get old…because that is what “was”…just does…
And…the main reason why “was“ does…is mainly just because.
