To Remember the Day Issa Left

1

Birds that prey on birds

quietly slumber in grove

drift away from day

when the withered reeds break off

then move in with clouds swift flight

In shade near water

evanescence of dew drop

near swaying grasses

a little child starts to laugh

inside temperate night fall

All natures theater

presentation of actors

perform on light breeze

improvise off each other

always spotless performance

Wherever water

lingers during this Springtime

cattails always sway

a Canadian Goose comes

wipes muddy feet on flowers

On freshly filled field

a crow puts on theatrics

acts as if in cage

sleeps then wakes then sleeps again

nearby river makes no sound

2

To climb mountain path

such heat turns walk into load

sudden shower falls

become naked as a horse

cool as one foot waterfall

Roadway of old ants

line wanders this way and that

as it moves on by

starts where far clouds touch a peak

seems to stretch on forever

Snails climb towards garden

slowly, slowly at my feet

under brushwood gate

garden is far off mountain

snail moves at tempo of clouds

Patch of withered grass

lies within circle of growth

flower next to wilt

a bent and grown grandfather

looks down upon a green young

Hear voices of deer

this veil a paper window

lovely thing to hear

when no one envies the cold

or how lucky to grow old

3

Large is always large

but small things extremely close

can be very large

imaginary pictures

can hold both the small and large

Treading in small clouds

here is Buddha in the wind

as a brave banner

or mist that has been exhaled

or a Skylark flying high

The frog and the bird

two different marshland singers

constantly argue

on the virtues of song

their two different schools of sound

Water is dark green

to fall into a cold deep

just a sinking form

pond not doing anything

but providing buoyancy

Here ten thousand leaves

only few know master song

where mountains vanish

mist covers chance of meeting

quietly slumber in grove.

You take us along with your thoughts…intertwined within nature. Observation of nature through Poetry. I wonder…Are you studying nature to learn something or to prove what you already know? We are lucky to grow old. Great line.

This poem takes me to another realm where the beauty of nature fills me with peace. I love it, Jamie.
