Simple Things
Life is filled with simple things
The movement of an insect’s wings
Sparkle of a wedding ring
Strands of light through window pane
Magic shown in fields of grain
Dizzy spinning weather vane
Quickening shift to joy from pout
Tiny fingers reaching out
Discovering what the world’s about
Flower petals spreading wide
Amidst the tears the joyful cry
Encouraged by the blushing bride
Puppies, kittens, bunnies too
Tiny birds that finally flew
Meadows wide with morning dew
Candle flame when all things still
Scrambling up a grassy hill
The feeling of complete free will
Relief of finally being heard
One focused on your every word
Deep within you, something stirred
A melody that stirs the soul
Treasure found in hidden holes
Not a fragment, indeed the whole
Ink, and brush, and charcoal cast
Visions of the now and past
Interest drawn and questions asked
Pennies tossed in wishing wells
Morning stroll with chiming bells
Welcome home and fond farewells
Movement of a rolling skate
Stringing through a metal great
Chairs around the dinner plates
Scents of spring that fill the air
Children on the bottom stair
Giggling as without a care
Enlightened by the turning page
Imaginations cast out to a stage
Another voice that comes to age
Memories of those days gone by
Elders’ wit and young ones spry
Truth was spoken, eye to eye
Chirping crickets and summer sun
Races run, and some were won
The highest goal was simple fun
Passer-byes with pleasant greeting
Politeness in a casual meeting
While high above the birds are tweeting
Fresh cut grass and lilacs bloom
Rising dust from corn straw broom
A carried wind that shares perfume
Waterfalls and great cascade
Giant oaks with endless shade
An icy glass of lemonade
First time sitting behind the wheel
Anticipation of a homecooked meal
Newfound love, and how it feels
Simple things bring pure delight
Rocking chair with fading light
The gentle calm of falling night
