Lucky Me
Lucky me, for no surrender
No giving up, no losing faith
I rode the knife, examined life
Measured things upon the balance
Yes, I faltered, stumbled too
Lost my sense, my will to do
But, lucky me, I held my ground
My inner voice it kept me right
Even on the darkest nights
Pros and cons and on and on
The life I had, well it was gone
Yet, it reminded of the lucky me
Wiped my eyes so I could see
Held me up when weakness came
Readied for this coming change
Charged my sense with that to not
Found the path to I’d been taught
Never let the excesses win
Don’t let trouble lead to sin
Lucky me, the giving gift
Let me swim but never drift
In my head, I worked things out
A future life, I blazed a route
But maps are one thing, travel more
Many nights, stood at that door
My confidence was still in tatters
The worst of days, it didn’t matter
Distraction was my lifelong friend
And needless things, I had to spend
But always found the lucky me
Kept me focused on the tree
Like that ancient oak, I still was growing
It takes some time, for complete knowing
Challenging and facing times
Charges from outside the lines
Unexpected and not my plans
But stepping up was in my hands
When lucky me, saw the winter melting
A gentle nudge, a welcome helping
My spirits troubled, now energized
Beckoned me to step outside
A budding plant, a blade of grass
Renewal after hard times passed
Came out of their hibernation
Firmly on their same foundation
Lucky me, for I got to see
When my life was all pollution
Nature held the one solution
Keep on growing, reaching higher
Above the weeds, above the briars
The patient light will find a way
To finally wash the pain away
Was it luck that led me here
Now my mind is fresh and clear
I’m going forward, starting new
Trusting myself, I should have knew
Funeral time, the past to bury
The hurt was only temporary
Another chance is there for me
Who’d a thought? Lucky me…
