Those far Dark Corners
I recently had a powerful experience in my life and learned some hard lessons.
1. Don’t be too quick to rush into a situation
2. Sometimes, there are other forces at play and the best thing to do is step back, get out of the way and let these forces play out
3. Just because you feel you have the upper-hand does not mean victory
I eventually immerged triumphant here but wounded as well in which I am currently seeing a Physical Therapist for. I wrote this poem as a result about this unique experience and wanted to share it.
“Those Far Dark Corners”
There’s a storm inside some of us
Few speak of this…only the ones who must
A strange burning desire that won’t leave
A drive to push on and push harder than most believe
An unrelenting drive to go farther than anyone thought possible
The struggle and need to venture into those far dark corners of the impossible
Those far dark corners where the bad things live…where the bad things fight
We want that fight at the highest volume possible
A very load fight…
The loudest, coldest, darkest most unpleasant of unpleasant fights
Here lies the ultimate test of time…the struggle between fight vs flight
There is no safe quarter here…this is a dark place
Good does not always triumph over Evil in this space
It is this realm, which lies between this world and the next
It is here, we always encounter our most complex
It is here moments of fear and adrenaline are heightened
Yet it is also here, courage is forged, and we no longer are frightened
No matter what we bring to this realm, it is never what we bring back
And far too often, some few that enter, never do come back
It is here we discover the best of ourselves…it is here we find our place
It is here we find our Legend within those far dark corners of time and space

Very impressive post, Jeff. I like your introduction on how you came to terms and rose above the situation. Well done.
Thanks Phyllis, and if I never have to experience something like this again, I can say “Never” would still be too soon. I’m just glad to now put this behind me.
Great use of couplet Jeff. It is refreshing to see epic stories in Heroic Couplet thank you for sharing. Jamie
Hi Jamie, you are too kind. Much thanks and appreciation for your support
It must have been a rather traumatic experience to evoke this piece of writing. I am glad you came out on top, even if not unscathed. Well done, Jeff.
Thanks John, much appreciated
Nice work. Good cadence. I do enjoy when personal experience is the basis on someone’s poetry. It gives it a truly authentic feel, where you can almost join in on the emotion of it all. Sounds extremely traumatic. Glad you rose above. Nice work. ~Paul
Hi Pail,
Thanks so much for the kind words. It definitely was a learning experience yet I would still not even wish upon my enemies, lol
