Somewhere in Time
Somewhere in time,
you my dearest friend and I,
thought that we could share –
a love so true and rare.
For you and me,
friendship has taken us,
through many years
and always we have cared.
What more we might be searching for,
might change what we are –
to one another my dear.
Somewhere in time,
we thought we felt,
the smoldering embers,
of love drawing us close.
But as time goes on,
hand in hand you and I,
kisses really have no passion –
we’re searching for a lost dream.
Always together,
through thick and thin.
Together like friends,
never you without me.
Nothing should change what is,
for you and I –
have the strong bonds of a friendship so rare.
I begin a song
and you finish it,
then we sing together –
even dancing in the rain.
You might not agree with me,
then so it must be,
but we still reach out for one another,
together burning bridges behind us,
knowing that if we must turn back some day –
together we can do it all, come what may.
So let us be what we are,
not look for something more,
take my hand,
let us continue on our way,
be there for each other –
always like old friends do.
So that we don’t lose what we already have,
put away the dreams of love,
the love we share as friends is enough,
otherwise we could lose what is so dear –
somewhere in time.

Wonderful poetry, Rasma. You have a gift of finding just the right words and phrases, often innovative in describing what you want to say.
This is sad, yet deeply optimistic, holding on as friends to make sure that friendship isn’t spoiled. I’m sorry to read that your particular friend went before his time.
Well done – a compelling and uplifting read.
