To Count Christmas Blessings

To Count Christmas Blessings
I
The toll taken to share love of Christmas
during this gathering of families
to provide fare including pastries
prepared the morning after Midnight Mass.
When Aunts and Uncles fill a living room
to feel a certain bondage to baked goods
cornucopia of different foods
my Sister-In-Law is trying to “Zoom.”
Pray every day but I am no angel
along with children who begin to wake
a miracle of gifts under the tree.
Amazing what the children’s manners tell
as Grandma gives her gift a little shake
and Father shares his Bourbon’s red-faced glee.
II
As if the year has promised up this day
a day when relatives try to find tune
to carols played by niece till afternoon
each gift unlocked unpacked given away.
Lascivious in my lewd leftist thought
as politics around the room rumble
all Moms by the tree begin to grumble
as arguments will end as peace is sought.
There is too much homely tomfoolery
we will weary the ones who refresh us
and prepare Christmas Merriment for all.
Along with all this dancing by the tree
a brother opens package without fuss
such joy this morning before breakfast call.
III
There is nothing taking minds of feasting
this Christmas Pedlars silken treasuries
of ornaments with million memories
a world where estranged loved ones try speaking.
To simmer up some grey Marxist nightmares
wonderlands full of free loading snowmen
where outside busy children build a grin
to let off steam embrace outdoor affairs.
No matter there is no lack of love here
this Happy Holiday embraces us
along with gifts we hold close to our hearts.
Over a Christmas ham we volunteer
a prayer with a friendly toast to bless
our family before the New Year starts.

Families are truly a blessing at Christmas time – even with all the hassle and arguments. A lovely poem, Jamie, I love it!
Nice picture in words of the family sharing Christmas…except…”Hey, No Political Rumblings during the Holiday!”…should be the Golden Rule. Merry Christmas and Happy Holiday Season to you. Enjoyed your Christmas Poetry.
Thank you Phyllis and Steve. I hope you are having a wonderful Holiday and Merry Christmas! Jamie
