City Life

City Life…

City life full of strife,
the pavement stretches onward,
like a long, flowing river.
Dust and grime all about,
people with tired faces.
Windows stretching toward the sky,
gazing outward blindly,
in the light of day,
they glow in myriads of lights,
when the darkness comes,
where people live their lives
and no one knows when they come and go.
Seasons change one for another,
but the face of the city stays the same
and love is always a game.

City life,
searching for the beauty,
among the grime and dirt,
among the trash
and the dangers all about.
Finding the places,
where there are treasures,
like nature in the city park,
Hearing birds twitter,
finding tranquility,
away from the noisy streets,
the cars that whiz by.
It is an art,
to live in the city,
taking the time,
to embrace it with your heart,
the place where you reside,
the pulse of the streets,
searching for smiles,
as you walk
and crowds drift by.

City life,
living among millions,
but always alone,
because no one is ever home.
I’ll take it in the night,
when the neon lights shine bright,
when it seems the city –
has become a carnival.
When music drifts out into the streets
and people dance to a different beat.
I’ll take it after the rain,
when the puddles reflect the buildings,
all about or in the rainy night –
rainbows by my feet from neon light.
I’ll take it in the summer heat,
when I can climb up on a rooftop,
there to catch the cooling breezes
and see the twinkling stars above.

Rasma, you captured the city life brilliantly with your words. Well done. I loved this.

Wow…I really like the way you captured “City Life” in your Poem. I grow a little weary of “City Life” myself…but after reading this…I will stop and look more at where I am and check out each little nuance. And, maybe even climb up on my roof and catch the cooling breezes!

I have lived on those streets that you described so well. Thank you for a pleasurable read Rasma. Jamie
