Forever In His Memory

Forever In His Memory …

No matter how much time passed,
no matter how the days all flew,
there was one thing he knew,
she would forever stay in his memory.
She was the girl,
that came and stayed,
for a season or two.
Always restless,
never wanting to settle down.
The lovely butterfly,
always ready to fly away.
Tired of a love that tied her down,
wanting something more,
never really knowing why.
He knew that she would forever remain,
in his memory,
a lovely girl,
too lovely to keep.
Hurt and bewildered,
but still so much in love,
he dreamt of her
and walked with her,
in his memories.
He wrote and she replied,
meaningless words,
something about remembering him.
She was so lively and vibrant,
so full of life,
their last kiss,
last dance,
last laugh,
left him haunted,
unable to go on.
Sometimes late in the night,
when things no longer seemed right,
he thought he heard her soft voice,
calling his name.
Nothing, nothing was the same,
he tried to remember,
when she began to drift,
when her tender kisses,
became cold and meaningless.
What was it about the last,
the last of a romance,
the last few remaining things,
that seared and burned in the heart,
forever branded in memory.
Sated with wine,
that helped him mellow,
he lay down once again,
watching the show in his mind,
last smile,
last touch,
last kiss,
loving her perhaps –
till the end of time.

Lovely poem Rasma. So heartbreaking too. I know we all have that one that sticks to our soul forever. I know I do. Nice work.

Absolutely haunting and beautiful! Love strikes deeply, for good and for bad. It certainly lingers in our hearts, often for a long time.
Great to read your work again.
I have given up on HP, for fiction/poetry. I can’t write fiction without feedback. Here it is much better.
