The Criminal and The Crime

The Criminal and The Crime
I
The prisoners will pick and choose one crime
a crime that glistens through a thickened rust
this manifestation of greed and lust
there’s no more water but fire this time.
Cleared of tyranny performing justice
or so they advertise to the public
upon the waves of new TechRepublic
so that some day you begin to “trust us.”
Everyday they continue the con
to keep their identity far away
and wear a mask that soothes everyone’s soul.
Each victim smiles when being set upon
nowhere to run from this criminal play
once magnetized to a negative pole.
II
Our lives stand within levels of our dream
each step upon this ladder takes such toil
until we shuffle off this mortal coil
a foot will slip off wrung with every scheme.
Let us break the chains of jealous tyrant
to understand the crime and criminal
a proactive approach irresistible
some sort of magic chiseled to an art.
Dreams become our toys except for this once
we take a respite from our place in clouds
to sit the criminals into their cells.
We will not play the character of dunce
to read the public man when enter crowds
no longer fall under these wicked spells.
III
So does this poem really tell a tale
of hurt and pain and other ways of being
a wayward spirit whose tired of seeing
to point out lessons learned each time we fail.
Maybe we could be child who escapes
into the arms of homeless poverty
to free ourselves and regain dignity
to sculpt and mold again our brazen shapes.
Then return humbly to the old kingdom
and destroy shadows darkness befallen
return some innocence before its gone.
This ancient mythology holds wisdom
a return after royalty sullen
to criminals and crime, to bring new dawn.
