The War Inside My Teenager’s Room

The War Inside My Teenager’s Room

A

Demanding comfort

uncomfortably messy

a pocket size tornado

of Memory Foam

torn into small confetti

destruction’s celebration.

Quickly this becomes

incomprehensible mess

manufactured in minutes

the turn of a head

time to pour a glass of water

from “Hello” to “OMG.”

The food and candy

long after expiration

nest of solidified sauces

hidden and crusty

along with last years bubblegum

Hercules and teenager.

Follow line of crumbs

under bed around corner

one slice of pizza months old

a hidden dungeon

of the unsanitary

something will need to be done.

B

A giant vacuum

amazingly strong suction

goodbye mess with “Whoop” and “Whoosh”

pleasant emptiness

a time to let things air out

sparkling wonderful start.

Tall cleaning device

some complicated gadget

fill room with soap bubbles

that pop with a pfffft

miraculously remove

proof of lazy lifestyle.

Maybe five Firemen

holding steady a fire hose

constant precise water stream

down gigantic drain

all those jagged broken toys

torn old journals and French Fries.

Home size sleigh with bells

pulled by Paul Bunyon’s Blue Ox

along with family and friends

pull the room away

into frigid winter night

trash for the land of giants.

C

No longer to ask

“It is time to clean your room!”

List all detailed instructions

take time to help out

provide all rakes and shovels

a few large black garbage bags.

Game show elements

speakers with a cheering crowd

motivational speakers

involve the whole world

use noise makers and a dance

when the laundry is in basket.

All this for naught

he moves as slow as Oak tree

every act methodically

slow Armadillo

no matter the strength of threats

restriction for million years.

So now I just beg

please for once just clean your room

here are upkeep instructions

just put in some time

like the time combing your hair

or staring into mirror.

Things have changed over the years. My name is Jamie Lee Hamann and I have a passion for writing short fiction and poetry. I started writing for TCE around 2015 and since then I have finished two collections of poetry "Six Years of Service" and "The Rhyme of the Ancient Middle Class" both available on Amazon and plans for more. I share a weekly poem for TCE every Saturday. I started work on my first novel and I am using TCE to share my progress as I go. I share new excerpts of this work every weekend. A Science Fiction novel that I hope is enjoyable to read. I currently live in Lemmon Valley NV with my family. I am excited to share my poetry and my writing. If you desire to find my other work on the internet feel free to stop by my website simplepoetics.weebly.com. The website offers articles on poetry, poems, and links to all my other writing.

Oh my goodness! How well do I remember my teenager’s rooms. Well phrased and fun to read piece, Jamie.

I appreciate the wording and imagery here along with the alliteration and humor. Interesting picture of a teenage daughter’s room but also her relationship with a parent.
