Time Passes, Seasons Change
Time passes, seasons change
Another year goes by
I feel myself getting older
A bit harder to get out of bed
Slower to heal
And I forget things
Nothing major, and not all the time
My sight is a bit dimmer
And I can’t always hear things right
I’m changing
The world is changing too
Everything has a button
Or electronic glow
Digital voices are everywhere
Even my doorbell can talk
And watch who makes my deliveries
Robots are cleaning floors
Refrigerators tell us when to shop
And everyone is connected
Maybe too connected for my liking
Almost surveillance
But by whom and for what
I’ll probably never know
They call it the new normal
But there’s nothing normal about it
Al least to an old guy like me
Everyone is looking down
But not ever seeing the ground
Passing by a shiny stone
Or curious looking fallen leaf
There is a great irony though
With the younger generation
The desire to be an individual
Maybe with green or blue hair
Possibly both or none at all
Piercings and body modifications
Wardrobes that cross all spectrums
Genders blending, words redefined
Right is wrong and no one seems to care
Everyone wants everything
And they want it now
Instant gratification
A change of the brain
Leading the youth away
From any meaningful pursuit
The need for constant stimulation
Must wreak havoc on their brains
And attention spans
No one talks much anymore
With texting, typing, messaging, and skyping
Surrendering the human condition
The shared interaction
No wonder the birth rate is falling
Those of us who have been around
Seen the decades come and pass
We just can’t make the leap
Mostly because we don’t want to
We’re not wired the same way
Technology to us is a tool
One that creates more time
Time to walk in the forest
Find that elusive piece of driftwood
And have stay in bed days
Snuggling and reminiscing
Time is too precious
To spend it alone in cyberspace
For once time passes
It cannot be regained

This is a great piece of writing as it contains so many truths that I can relate to, Ralph. I loved it.
Very true Ralph. Thank you for sharing and Happy New Year. Jamie
Great phrases for thought, Ralph. Life is like a river – once the waters flow past they will never return. I hope more people will see the folly of not living in the moment with nature and love for all living things. Well done, Ralph.
