Morning Dodoitsu

Morning Dodoitsu
I
In the morning I awake
t0 a slowly breaking dawn
grey and white take on color
before sleepy eyes.
Not all mornings break at dawn
some stay grey when their broken
no outline from the daylight
only dark stillness.
Today see a piece of blue
hidden in the darkest spot
of a blackened morning sky
stare in hope to see.
Many mornings see double
reality reflections
partly due to bad eyesight
also half asleep.
Traditional morning drink
this coffee with some hard thoughts
about our presence in time
where we find ourselves.
So much this morning faith
to believe there are answers
to believe in sunrise
hidden in plain sight.
II
Some mornings I wake to task
jump and bounce from thought to thought
organize the first few hours
before black coffee.
Some mornings I sit and stare
at walls that need art’s color
an empty space white and bare
bones drying in sun.
Where the blackness of the night
once overwhelmed my spirit
the hope of a second chance
sits in the morning.
Limited light of living room
patches of dark and shadow
slowly slip into daylight
with each deep slow breath.
An Arabesque of vision
small amounts of light create
mixed with cloudiness of sleep
world of miracles.
Somewhere the sound of cat feet
where in the morning they play
young cats run in coming dawn
their lives on the move.
III
Why is the heart hardened so
to find a whirlwind of grief
even with faith to fall hard
onto morning floor.
Morning embraces rebirth
animals curled in sleep stretch
towards the hope of new friendships
possibilities.
Escape from the grip of sleep
hover in purgatory
sip the darkness of morning
black as this coffee.
Morning sun will always rise
no matter where our hearts sit
time will pass through the darkness
light conquers daily.
Certain of morning stillness
placement of morning colors
created by the day starting
mine a minor role.
In the morning time will stop
shy eternity peers out
from under nighttime covers
opens sleepy eyes.

Nice work on these dodoitsu, Jamie. You might want to ask Ralph to add Dodoitsu as a sub-category to the Poetry primary category.
I think it really is just a variant of Haiku but that is a good idea. Thank you Phyllis. Jamie
