A Glimpse Through the Open Veil
My eyes have gazed upon the open veil
For but a moment
A haphazard glance
When the moon was full
Stars twinkling
Magick in the air and everywhere
I recall hearing about these days
When the thickness becomes thin
Some things can cross
As two worlds softly collide
Aligned for but a single day
And in that brief, but mighty view
I saw…
Everything and nothing
Those which have wandered
Or departed from this side
And even some who were taken
Often as wee lads and lassies
Nevermore to remember
From where and when they came
They mingled with the others
The different ones
Not man, nor woman
Nor any type of earthly beast
Different in shape and size
Color and disposition
Giants and tiny winged creatures
Howling, growling, and quiet ones
The gathering grows
As the hour comes near
Many wait at the border
Lined up and ready to cross
Ready to stand upon earthly ground
Walk amongst the living
Engage both bad and goodly mischief
For but a single night
When spirit meets form
The unknown makes themselves known
Only to a chosen few
Crossing over
A temporary transition
The crescendo of silence
Erupts into a whisper
Grows to become a muffled word
Unintelligible
And yet somehow unforgettable
The ancestors patiently wait
For the meeting with the living
Their crossing is symbolic
Stoic but elating
For tomorrow the veil will be thick
The door will close
For another year
Then the watching commences
All around
Nature cycles into darkness
A long rest ahead
The period of internal rejuvenation
Ponderances and thinking
So much from the beyond
So much from a single glance
My mind now filled
Spirits lifted
I quickly turned away
My steps light and rapid
Enough, I have seen
A single glance
Through the open veil

A interesting poem about crossing over. Well-worded. Nice job Ralph.
Enjoyable read Ralph I am excited to see what writing Halloween brings this year. Jamie
A wonderful write. I know they are all just over threshold not far away.
