Sunset Soliloquy – a Poem
Sunset Soliloquy …

Sunset Soliloquy
Handsome Mr Sun bows eloquently, fare-welling another day,
The star taking leave as dusk’s curtain closes.
Meanwhile, beautiful Miss Moon waits patiently backstage
For her turn as the night’s leading lady.
The Earth’s inhabitants watch like a fan-filled audience
Staring in awe at the flawless celestial performance,
Though they have seen this play many times before
Their standing ovation calls for an encore next morn at dawn.
The production in its infinite season
The cast unchanged since the beginning of time.
Day after day every evening and morning
Repeating the performance we never want to end.

The Sun and Moon
The sun and moon are often depicted as lovers who are destined to never meet. In this poem they are described as the leading actor and actress in a play, alas still destined to never meet but to light up the stage individually with their brilliance. Sunrise and sunset, day and night.

Longtime poet but not in the traditional technical sense. I enjoy rhyme but like to experiment and dabble in many different forms and maybe even make up some of my own. There is always a message or lesson I want to promote through my writing, for that reason, my poetry generally shies away from the abstract and obscure.

Jamie, thank you so much my fellow poet. Your Kim’s comment is greatly appreciated. I had been sitting trying to get inspiration and just looked at the sky outside and there it was – the setting sun.
Nothing finer than a sunrise or sunset John.. you did both justice here..
Thank you for reading this Kurt, and your generous comment is appreciated. Who doesn’t enjoy sunrises and sunsets? It is hard to go wrong when you write about them.
