Three Poems on News From 2017
1. Napa Valley Fire
Just running instead of turning gas off
where wild fire rage arrives at journey end.
Through choked vineyards they found debris blackened
with thickened smoke to make you stand and cough.
No break from the heat to feed volatile blaze.
Each photograph of plots resemble tomb
once consumed by Mother Natures womb.
Many missing, hundreds hospitalize.
We always thought alert system was sound.
Yet thousands, thousands people walking off
one hundred fifteen thousand acres burned.
The fire rolling to flames fertile ground
with thickened smoke to make you stand and cough.
A sudden change to relearn what we’ve learned.

2. Healthcare to Puerto Rico
When Maria turned off the power switch
each sickness adds upon calamity,
assisted with such stress immunity,
is fatal without energy of rich.
His body went without refrigerant.
Her body days upon the flood waters.
Then hospital now home for brave martyrs
who have no time for monsters or tyrant.
The islands health has become critical.
A voice begs for access to power
to live to see the sun drying day.
The Corps. of Engineers will fix cable
to generate a glimpse of hope by the hour.
The sick begin to rise from where they lay.

3. This Disfigured World
This disfigured world outside of our thoughts.
So far away in another city.
Is this manipulated memory?
We act as realities cosmonauts.
We have lost our knowledge of natural.
Of our natural human distortions.
With disregard to equal proportions.
If we don’t wake up into dreams we will fall.
We must rise and let our voices be heard.
Relearn that community is key.
To stand along with humanity.
To see straight the world though eyesight seems blurred.
To open our ears to others soft plea.
To sit with world and write our treaty.

Very nicely penned verses, Jamie. Well done.
Awesome read my friend and very much enjoyed!
Nice work Jamie. Really enjoyed the last one, though I feel that some will willfully be absent from writing that treaty with the rest of us.
Amazing how poetry helps us to remember the best and the worst of world events – thanks for sharing your mind’s eye into these events.
Thank you for all your kind words. Jamie
