Symphony in the Key of Silence

An interlude of silence

Where contemplation appears…

Becomes evident and nearly substantive

While recognition remains tepid

Time held in a miniscule void

Disguised as a fleeting breath

Passed over almost exclusively

As if waiting for the perfect juncture

Careful selection or unexpectedly

The seal of an eternal configuration

No longer hidden, no longer absent

Now emerging from the silence of a moment

And yet with the newfound freedom

Lies confusion in multiplicity

Directionless and easily lulled away

That which has been found, could be lost

Barraged by a litany of inquiries

To which sound should be given attention

Which pitch or soft complex bridge

Or perhaps everything or nothing at all

Like a whisper the sound remains

Measured in measures, but calculated in breaths

The moment when a crashing crescendo slows

Not fully still, but no longer energized

Finality nothing more than reverberations

And then echoes; perhaps mere figments

Reality or just the imagination’s playfulness

Harmless ringing tones that surround the quiet

An emerging energy from within

Cancelling the role of the outer world

Lessening the intake of newness

Yet preserving the memory of each step

Deep reflection offers an ending

A proverbial light in the endless darkness

Discovery is but a destination

Found in plain sight, perched in the silence

Mysterious, yet vividly seen as it swirls in the silence – the nuance, the soft whisper of breath, a calm after the crescendo, all beautifully portrayed. This makes me think of fulfillment and peace after ecstasy. Oh, how my mind wanders with your skill with words. Well done, Ralph.

As always your words have the ability to take me to another place, well done Ralph.
