The road within is fraught with obstacles,
all that in defence of ego, resists truth,
protects the delicate balance of self,
its perception and belief a path of regulation,
fashioned to uphold a narrow view
of what the self aspires to be.
These delusions of maintenance
uphold a perspective that does not forgive
ineptitude, it erases it,
in a process we accept either sub-consciously
and sometimes even consciously,
not facing our faults, preferable.
Should we continue this ruse,
we never grow, never understand who we are
or face our demons, never acknowledge
the half-truths we believe complete,
and base all our decisions and actions
upon those assumptions.
It seems a simple thing but this delusion
can change the course of a life,
affect every direction we choose to follow,
and after years of living the lies,
they become irrefutable truth
and thus create a world of disastrous possibility.
I have seem so many people become narcissists,
become malicious and spiteful,
just keeping the lies alive,
resisting any form of growth or positive affirmation
in the belief they are someone else completely,
someone who is always right.
If we are not honest with ourselves,
how can we be honest with anyone else,
live an authentic life, to know ourselves,
accept our faults and aspire to be better,
for delusion is a mark of stagnancy,
and lies just rupture the fabric of reality.
The road to inner peace is a slow and arduous path,
and in honesty we may address our reality,
out faults and potential, and know that each epiphany
is one step closer to acceptance,
and knowing ourselves we can make decisions
about our direction and eventual purpose in life.
The peace within comes at the cost of letting go of past,
forgiveness and quiet deliberation,
deciding to be loving and compassionate,
empathetic and non-judgemental
allowing our true self to be free of encumbrance
and open to possibility.
