Dystopia, the Sorrow

Dystopia, the Sorrow
Dystopia, the Sorrow

The wave brings questions,
each breath a stuttered response,
and amid the objections,
a flavourless silence, bonds
to the unwanted answers, pending,
reality sending panic through minds,
the havoc of truth, the underlying pride
that chooses ignorance over enlightenment.

Bleed I do, from the truths sharp edges,
pledges I’ve made to myself,
and as the wave grows, and disarray
promotes the coming recompense,
my heart shrivels in the sorrow
of what comes, what inevitability runs
through the veins of human good,
but too late is the decree, too long the heart to agree.

Each breath is weighted, each thought is fated
to acknowledge the coming wave,
and stave it off, just a fantasy,
when how long has it taken
to get the world this way,
and sooner or later it had to come,
the turbulence, the deaths mounting
the desperation in screaming silence
done echoing in the shadows.

Where will you be when the wave hits,
that heart-stopping moment when bliss
is torn from a world, love is smothered,
empathy is weakness and hatred
is the stay of response,
when chaos is wanted, as those who take control
abscond with life as we know it,
and we the slaves of their aspirations.

Ignorance may have been bliss,
when our little worlds stayed the same,
but what if it is turned upside down,
what then for our deluded minds,
when even what we have is taken away,
no aspirations, no rewards, just compliance,
and harsh penalties for questioning,
daring to make waves of your own.

How will you respond when the wave hits,
be surprised, be filled with sorrow
for all you didn’t do to stop it?

It may be inevitable that the wave (in some form another ) will one day hit our civilization. Many past civilizations have perished unexpectedly, what is to say ours will not one day suffer a similar fate. mankind is very slow at learning lessons from history. Very well-written and much food for thought here Tony.
