No Slumber Tonight…my CPAPs gone!

No Slumber Tonight…my CPAPs gone!

No Slumber Tonight

Sweet blissful sleep, I know not thee,
the dog did munch my CPAP machine,
and now I’m empty, no breath to find,
and slumber shall not give me time.

Upon a mound of pillows I’ll be,
upright rest is all I can see,
to stop that snore and keep breathing too,
every other minute, before I’m blue.

Tossing, turning, gasping, waking,
upright sitting, sleep forsaking,
mind a blur of half dream wandering,
not sleep not wake but discomfort rendering.

And eight more days
until that parcel arrives,
and sleep reintroduced before sunrise,
so suck it up and clear your mind,
exhaustion’s fun for the sleep deprived.

I can relate to this, Tony, as my wife suffers sleep apnea and has a CPAP machine. Luckily the dog has never ate it because they are so expensive. We do have to buy a new mask soon. Some may find this poem funny, but it would be serious to anyone who relies on a CPAP.

Thanks John, no its really no laughing matter, I bought a new one from the US (so much cheaper than here), but have to wait for it. In the mean time I have horrid nights of tossing, turning, bad dreams and feel like hell every morning. I made the poem amusing, but its hardly that. Cheers!

Although I can find humor in this piece, my friend I’m very empathetic to your dilemma. I too use the Cpap to clear my head, nasal passage and bless me once more with the comfort of a good night’s sleep and energy filled day the next. It’s become my mental and physical savior. So I can feel your angst. Let the parcel arrive quickly my friend, for a poet’s mind must be clear for the gifts from beyond to give our voice clarity and our quill the ink and passages to the blank page before us. I send you peace and great future sleep my poet.

Hi, Tony. I’m not sure if this a poem or real life. Either way, you bring out a need many people have. I’ve been diagnosed as borderline for sleep apnea, but I don’t need the machine yet. Good stuff!

Oh, boy! I sure relate to this, Tony. Those nights when sleep can only be found for a few seconds here and there while sitting up. I don’t have sleep apnea, but COPD does give me trouble at night if I don’t have my inhaler. Take care.
