Morning Zombie
Between the cracks, through glass and air,
light imparts its rise upon a waking soul,
and warmth like a tender kiss imbues the flesh,
as stirred a mind so lost before to dreams aloft;
and cats purr in an elegant pose,
soaking up those first rays of morn,
and lingering dreams lament the fall,
as cognizance floats gently to reality.
Sighs profound,
acceptance wound in a touch of reticence,
echo softly in the bounds of homes and halls,
as feet find ground
in hope that blood does reach those drowsy limbs,
and as the day awaits for clarity to take hold;
zombie wanderers shuffle to bathrooms,
tiles cold a shock of sorts,
and mirrors implore those lids to open,
the horror sight too much in hope for a reprieve.
The day begins and sounds do rise to meet the light,
the flight of workers fill the streets and highways,
and rumbling life like a wheel is on the turn,
as fervent hearts amass to enact their plights,
their dollars to earn;
the sun now whole over the horizon,
begins its higher ascension, as if to mark the time,
its steady beat seated in every moment of attention.

Ahh the morning grind. I hate it. It does feel like a horror scene sometimes. Nice work Tony very vivid imagery of the morning wake up.
Thanks, Paul, glad you enjoyed it. Take care.
Loved this Tony. I am definitely among the zombies and not at all a morning person.
At least not before a coffee, lol. Glad you related Rasma, take care.
The photo you placed with your verse my friend would make anyone want to shoot themselves rather than rise from that bed, however I catch your meaning indeed:-)) Many a morn I remember that awful feeling up getting out of our beloved bed to traverse my chamber in awkward fashion, needing my injection of caffeine to awaken my soul. Then only to be blurred by the hum and buzz of the day, the city pulsating it’s welcome for another day of drudgery at my office. Oh give me the sleep, the deep perfect sleep of the gods. Perfectly penned my friend, enjoy your day and fear not the waking day, but look always forward to the slumber at day’s end. Cheers
Me too Vincent. Thank God I don’t have to greet the day to face working with all the drones and the chaos of a city. I couldn’t cope these days. Coffee though, still a necessity. lol Take care.
It does seem to get harder each year to greet the morning. I refuse to look in a mirror till after I have a cuppa coffee. Your nicely phrased verse provides vivid imagery of the wake up efforts. Thank goodness the sun will provide some reality. Well done, Tony. Take care.
Thanks Phyllis, yes mirrors aren’t a good idea, regardless, but worse in the morning. lol I actually wake OK these days but certainly wouldn’t if I had to get up at 7 and go to a job. Take care.
