Grateful for You

I am indebted to you …

grateful

I am honored by this relentless assault,

One that had creeped into my reality,

The realization, that I may not be absolved,

Even though I am not what I used to be.

That once brash, rough and tumble individual

The one who had no cares for your well being

He is sorry his words were paralytical,

And back then his humility was fleeting—

But absolution is a tireless path to tread,

To release one from their elocution of pleasantries

I never meant to make you feel Lilliputian instead,

I will hone my honesties for harmony.

It is more a detriment to you if I lie,

And for that I am sorry, I am so sorry

Clemency is a remnant I cannot hope to buy,

Though honesty sometimes hurts, it is our story.

An epic saga of mistakes and makeups,

Of blunders and successes that define us

Not some trivial heartbreaks and hiccups,

But the wonders we create that aligned us.

And I am grateful for this story we engaged in,

How each line writes itself so naturally.

When we started there were these empty pages,

And we didn’t know if they would be filled with apathy,

…Or if our chemicals would coalesce,

under the umbrella of love so fervent.

But soon the ghost writer of our story progressed,

And we knew we were splinter-proof, emergent.

Nothing could stop us, an unquenchable flame,

Sometimes flickering through the night, sometimes raging

But nonetheless, unfaltering, white hot, and untamed,

Like the moment I caught your eyes participating—

And I feel your heart pacing, my hand on your chest,

My pulse racing, I am thankful for our beginnings.

I am indebted to you, because you demanded my best

Forever am I in our debt, because you were willing,—

Because you saw me for what I could be,

The person that wore his heart on his shoulder

The caged man you saw and wanted to set free

I will earn this flame we will share as one owner.

Beautiful writing Paul, and without change we are stagnant, festering in our ineptitudes rather than realizing our possibilities. So well constructed and expressed my friend, great work as always

Thank you Tony. Change is inevitable most times you can be content to just ride the wave. Much appreciation my friend for your kind words

Great write my friend. I was a Desperado in my life and it took the soothing hand of a friend and lover to calm the storm in my soul. I liked the pattern you moved in this piece. Change is relevant for so many of us, for without it, our hearts and soul wander alone and hapless. I agree great phrasing is one of your many strengths in writing poetry Paul. I enjoyed this art immensely. Any person can make great changes in their lives, it takes tremendous effort and sacrifice, but it’s definitely achievable. Nicely penned.

Very true my friend. Change is a chance to improve something in your life. And maybe it may take someone there egging you on, but it usually turns out for the better. Thank you so much for your kind words my friend, I am glad you enjoyed it.
