A Sober Reflection

A Sober Reflection
A Sober Reflection

Too many years have passed
without the soul taking stock,
as eloquent words so gently mock the fray,
the languid yearnings of the artist,
the soulful pleas of the pain
that drives a poet to expression,
come storm, sunshine, and rain,
and in retrospect, I suspect the duality of my mind,
both applaud the outpouring
and abhors the revelations
of self-explored terrain.

Complex the nuances of worth,
of dedications girth,
and the human suffering so perverse
to hold contempt for self,
and yet in love find solace,
surrender a wooden heart made flesh,
and then bleed so profusely
when love falls on the sword,
and explanations all ignored
as loss echoes endlessly,
and tremulous hands do write.

What self-indulgence bleats,
as life pings within my cranial cavity,
a catastrophe of reminders,
the subject matter of kinder realms
but how can I resist,
the flow of life without the risk is pointless,
and if I but focus on my demise,
then perhaps I can see others
in the sympathy of my pyre,
a connection of desire
I so miss.

Words fly so effortlessly,
but I do not squeeze them, cajole them,
they take flight with the warm air I place
beneath their wings,
and this heart just pours out,
despite the narcissistic view,
I am true to myself,
and connected I am to the soul
who wants this passion whole
to be shared,
and that I care.

Introspection a dangerous plight,
for a bleeding heart romantic,
but what can I do but write,
it’s all I can for my soul and heart,
weave magic in word-painted flights,
for others to see and imbibe,
prescribe to my philosophy,
let love abide and in kindness be
the best version of self,
without the self always in the driver’s seat,
wielding impossibilities.

the soulful pleas of the pain
that drives a poet to expression (Exploring the terrain of one’s mind can be a shocking discovery)

surrender a wooden heart made flesh,
    and then bleed so profusely
when love falls on the sword, ( loss of love is a tremendous and oft inspirational moment that
moves a poet, we bleed from our souls with outpourings so
    profuse at times)

    What self-indulgence bleats,
as life pings within my cranial cavity ( If it wasn’t for our self examination we wouldn’t be able to
pen as profusely as we do. Our focus is a reflective journey
and ever so persistent as writers.)

    Words fly so effortlessly,
but I do not squeeze them, cajole them,
they take flight with the warm air I place
beneath their wings, ( masterful and eloquent verse Tony)

    Introspection a dangerous plight,
    for a bleeding heart romantic,
but what can I do but write, ( For without introspection how can we possibly write, this is
a very powerful ending stanzas to by far one of your best
pieces Tony, beautifully penned with so much tender and yet
    somewhat introspective meanings.

I loved this work and it’s one of your finer works ever penned here. You sir are the Master and I am privileged to be alive at this time to bare witness to your work which will live on for eternity. Praise and blessings I send to you this wonderful morn.

You are too kind Vincent. I guess every now and then, when the stars align, we create something out of the ordinary and perhaps this is just one of those. I so appreciate your kindness and know that I feel the same about your work, always. I admire your skill and heart in all you do dear poet and thank you again for your support. Take care.
