Sweet Memories of You

Time has flown,

like birds taking wing,

I know that soon,

autumn will bring back sweet memories,

of different times.

The many tears that have been cried,

when you went away,

as the autumn leaves  –

began to fall.

Leaving behind thoughts,

of warm summer smiles

and the tangy taste –

of the sea spray upon the air.

Time has passed

and I still long for you,

I wonder why life –

is sometimes so cruel.

We were still laughing,

enjoying life,

then so suddenly you were gone

and I couldn’t find my way –

back to your love.

Now I look toward the heavens,

to see the brightest stars,

I know you are there gazing down on me.

Someday all of the pain and heartache,

will be gone,

in the dead of winter,

when those silver snowflakes fall,

even though behind me,

only one set of footprints will be,

I’ll be seeing two sets in my mind

and remembering the snowball fights.

I listen to music playing,

and see you and me,

dancing by candlelight

and when the flame begins to flicker,

I’ll still have you by my side

and we’ll meet up yonder,

beyond the stars,

where we’ll continue our dance.

Till then I’ll keep you in my heart,

till then my sweet memories of you will shine,

as I gaze at the photos,

of you and me,

together and smiling –

all through our loving years.
