Burdens and Freedom

Burdens and Freedom
Burdens and Freedom

In flight thoughts despaired
find favor in freedom’s release,
and no weighted burden
can hold down the will to speak,
to compel freedom’s solicitude
and shed the vestments of constriction.

A burden in place is a release craved,
and despair too heavy to ensue
when a heart needs the lightness of immunity,
a punitive measure of liberation,
from our own hearts fallen dark,
impeded by a faithless lull.

We are our own burden of response,
our loss of hope, of faith lost in circumstance,
overwhelmed and unable to vent,
we crumble and become empty,
freedom a faint cry from a distant horizon,
and our perspective tainted with darkness.

Our load bearing diminishes,
our minds too overpowered by panicked fear,
and as those dark clouds gather,
the potential of light deteriorates,
and thoughts just ping like echoes,
a thunderous repetition like an escalating storm.

Freedom begins within the mind,
not a sought state but an accepted being,
when we disallow circumstances to hold such weight,
they cannot then restrict our lives,
they are simply challenges to be dealt with,
shadows to be lit by the light of knowledge.

Burdens then become something else,
inclines on our path of life, and nothing more,
as time sees them walk away, each one,
as we deal with their necessities,
face their challenges and overcome
in our paths of learning.

Light conquers darkness,
knowledge conquers fear,
and we in this human life can overcome anything,
as we cannot be given what we cannot deal with,
otherwise there would be no learning,
no purpose at all.

This is a very enlightening and inspiring piece, Tony. Too often a burden can become overwhelming and impair peace of mind. To realize that freedom begins in the mind will greatly help one to have more positive thoughts in life. Great message and well penned. Take care dear poet.
