Stories of Steampunk History – An Era Repurposed

repurposed

To some this is history, to others, just stories

Details of things cooked up in laboratories

Not potions per se, but instead new devices

Like chefs they concoct, using gears as their spices

Gauges and valves, tubing and meters

Copper and bronze, and loads of new features

Counter-weighted clockwork and similar mechanisms

Enlightening thoughts far beyond skepticism

Things are invented, repurposed, and remade

Some call it progress while others say retrograde

It’s a collision of things; no it’s more like a fusion

Where every day is another industrial revolution

It’s a movement; some might even call it a dream

When the world kept alive, the great power of steam

An alternate reality, one where form equals function

Items repurposed but with exquisite construction

Growing in breadth and depth of the build

Not really a union, but much more like a guild

The gathered crowd of usual suspects

A complete revolution of their personal effects

Enter the airship captains and armored troopers

Leather corseted girls complete with their bloomers

Hero-scientists joining with pith-helmeted explorers

Adventuring aristocrats are giving them orders

Mechanics and tinkerers; hell-bent on creation

Distracted by the dandy’s and their sultry gyrations

Monster hunters emerge with all kinds of weaponry

Silver and iron, with their gear in dark ebony

Choices galore yet only one thing required

It’s your goggles of course; to be properly attired

I write about everything and sometimes nothing at all.I'm fascinated by old things, rusty things, abandoned places, or anywhere that a secret might be unearthed.I'm passionate about history and many of my pieces are anchored in one concept of time or another.I've always been a writer, dating back to my youth, but the last decade has been a time of growth for me.I'm continually pushing the limitations of vocabulary, syntax, and descriptive phrasing.

Yes, never forget the goggles. Steampunk – delightful and fun retro-futuristic costumes and photo shoots. Great listing of all the possibilities of re-purposed items. The photos are wonderful. Well done, Ralph.
