The Long Play, Where Do You Fit?

The Long Play, Where Do You Fit?
The Long Play, Where Do You Fit?

The simplicity of life these days
is found in compliance,
believing what we are told
and striving for that elusive dream,
that promised security in wealth and status
afforded to those that conform to the expectations.

Yet, are we sound and happy in our captivity,
bound to all the things supposed to give us freedom,
debt and service to our overlords,
where blood is demanded,
hours commanding a life
far less than the dreams told.

Far easier to just let it go and believe
the rewards will come eventually,
those dreams will come true and life will be the reward,
but perhaps by then, there is little life left to afford
the blessings you imagined,
following those dreams given.

Many find the realisation too late,
life’s struggle was just a cost too large,
when happiness never occurred from working,
amassing wealth and brand new cars,
just a sense of loss from all the years missed,
your children grown and spoiled,
an overcompensation for your missing place.

Regret can leave a sour taste,
oh what a waste, those years so lost in time,
when family missed you, and you chasing rainbows,
brought home the bacon to placate the illusion,
the institutions that bled you dry.

Where is the balance you ask,
it was simply priorities, family first regardless,
love the true and final key, the rest a ruse,
a conformity that fits into someone else’s muse,
you at the expense of lining their pockets?

Broken families, left wanting,
drowning in money, greed and privileged,
self the scope of all hope,
and charity a small word, beneath your creed,
as you realize what you’ve done,
fall for the lie, the long play,
where no-one benefits but the few.

How did we get here? When and why did life become a ‘bust your ass to survive’? Here I sit, raised my kids, gave them the things needed for school, food, shelter, helped them with their children, put them first, myself last, retired, and have some temporary comfort in home and needs. For all those years of working hard what do I have to look forward to but departure from Earth and hopefully a beloved to share the next life with me. Hmmm – guess I am not in a blissful mood today. Such is this moment for me. Many blessings to you, Tony, and lots of hugs.

We all question where are are, and sometimes can’t figure out how. All we can do is our best with anything in life. Circumstances change with our needs and wants and when its not all we think we should have look to the gift of learning within it. There will always be one. Take care dear friend.
