Distant Calls Within Eternity
Distant calls from worlds unknown,
prick my ears to their errant beat,
as if insistent, so indiscreet,
and I cannot refute their echoes,
their lingering din,
voices of those I cannot see
from distance far but somehow heard
the past such an enigma
for all those voices been.
At night, gazing into the stars,
I wonder where they are,
those voices like arrows into the air,
and one did strike my heart,
so I search for them within eternity,
hardly a scientific journey,
but still I know their voices,
hear their pleas and hope
for some miraculous resolution.
A heart as mine, gazing the skies,
no matter who they are,
we are one in seeking,
one in reaching beyond ourselves,
knowing we peer into the same eternity,
a thirst for learning,
an affinity we cannot ignore,
and so we stand motionless,
minds brimming with possibility.
I wish only goodwill,
to share life’s secrets and know
we are never alone, never lost,
within an eternal place,
graced with sentience
and voices reaching out
into the darkness of space,
so hear my pleas,
know that I am of a heart to greet.
Distance it seems is an illusion,
as voices appear from deep within,
somehow connected over vast distances,
empowered by life itself
to touch one another
in the harmony of peace,
and so I hope that one day we can be
in the same thoughts,
in a touch of brotherhood and solidarity.

So beautiful and emotive, reaching out to those voices and sending your pleas. This verse strikes home to me, Tony. I hear distant voices at times when it is dark and the stars are bright. Your sincere words will help me to know how to respond to them. I love this great work, thank you for writing it.
Glad you related and enjoyed it Phyllis. I am an unrepentant star-gazer, always have been. Take care.
