Before I Drop…

Before I Drop...
Before I Drop…

How lost am I, and have been,
the eye of omniscience nowhere by,
life just a starting game, the rest our ploys
and sameness follows us in proclivity,
until we find ourselves,
see the seed that buried deep within does hold,
the spark of all that is,
and we amid its favor see not its sharing.

Instead we cling to earth,
the solid ground but a fleeting panacea,
but not the answer to our woes,
that my friend goes deeper into the burrow,
the truth, the ruse we’ve followed,
just falls away when sorrow bleeds our heart,
and we have to face that mirror,
the truth a reflection but in candor, apart.

Woes may follow us back to earth,
cold and dark the void,
but if we don’t seek to employ that spark within,
sins just bury us too soon,
and what purpose in that could uplift the gloom,
the travail, that weighted
hurt of human experience,
that supposed to uplift us to grace.

When I am found,
my seeking profoundly content,
I will perhaps relent the dour countenance,
let go the earthly wounds and discontent
that so haunts my dreams,
to believe in higher connections,
above my transgressions of old,
to settle like a stone beneath a stream.

Until then my mind does question,
does lament the woes befallen me,
and hope for a better effigy
than the one I presently envisage;
but being broken is not so bad,
how easily I fit in with earthlings,
glad to be on the ride, but
sad for what I have contrived in time’s grace.

But earthlings do bring me down,
petty rifts and scripts so predictable in irony,
my days in relent of all they are,
but I write to clear, a catharsis I can live with,
and I let my soul out,
let it flow like water, no filters,
just what I see and know and cannot stop,
before I drop.

This verse is so heartrending, Tony. It prompts me to reach out and hug you tight, to protect and comfort you – yet that would only hold you down, keep you from seeking answers and ascending to higher levels. Yet, reach out I do with understanding, compassion, love and kindness, to let you know you are not alone on this journey that confounds us and leads us in circles at times. And we wonder … are we going forward or backwards?

This type of verse from you is powerful, very emotive and difficult to reply to, for I never really know if this is your own heart and soul of deep thoughts and feelings, or is it just writing a tragic piece to stir emotions in your readers? Either way, it stirs in me the comment I sincerely wrote, which your words and heart-felt phrases brought out. Exceptional work dear poet. You have indeed found your voice of worth and it is powerful.

Thank you Phyllis, I guess the work is me by reflection, the human struggle ever-present, and some days I feel like this and lucky enough to be able to express it. No doom and gloom, just honest feelings in black and white. So glad you appreciated the outpouring, Cheers!
