My Captive Gaze

Captive to the stars I gaze,
their glimmer but a lost in time illusion,
and rise and fall they may,
yet here a miraculous display of life and death,
a gift of past in presents wealth
of wonder and drifting thoughts
that leave me without conclusion.
How I adore the sky,
a relentless echo of time gone by,
and yet with infinite depth
I cannot accept a call for understanding,
a boundless never-ending line of sight,
where life just cascades like water,
reaffirming that cycle’s plight.
No matter what time of day or night,
the sky gently holds my mind,
rearranging its colors and shapes,
its depth awakening my deep forsaken questions,
predilections of surmise,
yet each and every day surprise,
a revelation of the new.
As clouds pass by
in all their painted glory,
like galleons a sail puffed up by summer winds,
gliding so silently over prevailing seas,
and I am lost within their spectacle,
their ever evolving undulations,
the provocations of awe inspiring dream.
And the the embers of falling day
do glow like a fireside gaze,
crackling sounds and warmth so rare
to warm a heart from care, lost within the radiance,
and colors meld to impossible hues,
orange, gold and blue,
as purple creeps in to announce an evening’s play.
Sunrise, all fresh and alive,
does awaken my mind to the new,
golden shards so far reaching,
long shadows streak across my view,
as sounds erupt and day ensues in clarity,
and I blurry-eyed aspire to opportunity,
as the beginning begins once again.

I can easily get lost to the sky, day or night. I love the above and all it contains, meanings, memories, things to come, all of it. Beautiful phrasing and thoughts, Tony. Well done dear poet. Take care.
So pleased you enjoyed it, Phyllis, its always been my thing from childhood. All the thoughts and questions about infinity and the cycles of life. Clouds particularly, as you well know. Take care dear poet.
