Facing Change Head On
Broken under the weight,
we purge ourselves, turn tears into rivers
and wallow in our overwhelming circumstances,
yet it is not weakness but change
that so tests our resolve,
and change can be painful,
bring insecurity to bear,
but in reality there is no security,
just the evolving landscape of our lives,
testing us in light of our understanding
that change is ours to experience,
to grow even more,
closer to who we must become.
The ability to step into an unknown world
is a form of courage, but it is easy to worry,
think the worst and carry fear,
yet we are stronger than that,
we know that all things pass,
and when has life ever crushed us
without an epiphany to ease our pain,
for this is just life, a sweet refrain of change
that brings us closer to where we should be,
not misery that we create,
but the joy of the new,
the promise of opportunities not thought,
but afforded in our surrender and acceptance.
Contending or unduly worrying about change
is just the painting of that landscape,
the creating of our negative expectations,
when surely we should be seeking a better world,
a progression of worth;
so don’t hold yourself back from what is needed,
as it just prolongs the pain you accept
in the struggle against change,
the questions unanswered in your time,
but on the way if you allow them;
allow yourself the opportunity of change,
allow your circumstances to improve,
your dreams come true, just by accepting the move.
When dust settles and life is transformed,
we so often look back and wonder why
we created such suffering.

You are right, Tony. Accepting change “just brings us closer to where we should be”. This is a very helpful and well penned work. Excellent work dear poet.
PS: “and when has life every crushed us” should be “ever ….”
Take care and sleep well. x
Glad you found it helpful Phyllis, and thanks for the missed typo. Take care
