The Inexplicable Power of Woman

A wry smile, a fluttered eye,
sends a man to bumbling uncertainty,
as a woman’s guile pervades
every nerve and postured sigh,
for all that could be,
behind, a will so covert in intricacy,
a man but a slave to possibility,
the confusion of inevitability so taunts,
as a woman stalks.
What a man wants is plain,
a tilt in the kilt need not explain,
as lust does soar into an endless space,
a race he can never win,
if so desires a woman, otherwise,
and at her beckon call,
a man of strength has none at all,
cow-eyed gormless mesmeric sloth,
as if the brain is somehow switched off,
and he, led to the slaughter.
Never look into a woman’s eyes,
that’s where it all begins,
and lost we shall be in this fantasy
of numbing want and desperate pleas,
heartbreak, lies and ecstasy,
the devil you do, the devil you don’t to please,
and she like a cat taunting a mouse,
lets you go just to capture you again,
when a woman wants her dues,
paid in full.
A wry smile, a fluttered eye,
luscious lips and warmth inspired,
the death of you and me,
flesh the path of empathy,
for we are but bleating lambs
led to our demise,
and with an accepting smile we slip right in
and pay for sin,
our will somehow survives,
the web of love so hypnotized,
we wonder how we got here.

Oh so true, and so well penned. I like it, Tony. “ and with an accepting smile we slip right in and pay for sin.”
Thanks Chris, glad you enjoyed it. Cheers!
First, a fascinating picture. I have been led this way so often, where your words bespeak and roll over the tongue so willingly, so often to enslave the “lucky” one who leads themselves to the slaughter. Excellent work, my poet friend…excellent work!
Much appreciated Donald, so pleased you enjoyed it. Cheers!
From a woman’s point of view it depends on the woman but reading I can picture it all and I know the truth so fantastic write.
Thanks Rasma, so pleased you enjoyed it. Have a great day!
