SYNOPSIS
This multilayer-ed novel examines the life of a unique soul born into the ravages and upheaval of 14th century England. It is a mystical story that follows the struggle of an enlightened young monk who is chosen as an initiate of a secret sect that reveals to him ancient knowledge and power beyond the world of mortals. As a devout Benedictine monk, this situation creates somewhat of an enigma for Té, the central character, his immense faith opposing a new reality that he cannot refute.
This struggle is set in a time when church was law and heretics cleansed at the stake with fire. All this takes place amidst a backdrop of one of the most calamitous centuries in human history. The secret world of the church, warring with France, the ‘Pastoureau Movement’ against serfdom, abject poverty, ‘The Black Plague’ and the ‘Flagellant Movement’ that all but tears the church apart, are only some of what this young soul must deal with on his unique life’s journey.
The story is insightful, heart-warming and tragic but above all thought provoking, revealing a turbulent life amidst a dark history, and the knowledge that the light of truth and love will shine even in the darkest place. It reveals many ironies within life and revelations that can send a life-affirming shudder through what we so easily accept as reality.
It is a story with the depth and sensitivity that will captivate believer and non-believer alike.
