Monsoon Rains
Memories of the first monsoon rain…..
A distant growl of thunder is the unmistakable prelude
followed by a few blinding flashes of lightning,
before the entire skies erupt in a seasoned show of fireworks
to announce the arrival of monsoon rains,
as majestic peacocks daintily fan out their feathers
conveying a befitting welcome on behalf of earth.
Darkness slithers from somewhere as a resolute serpent
swallowing the remaining light shards in a few mouthfuls,
as rain clouds amalgamate in skies forming a battalion
to wage a war on sunshine’s kingdom,
and lives forewarned by all these detailed proceedings
scurry to the warmth of safe sanctuaries.
Gently, the first raindrops fall on parched soil,
to kiss away all summer agonies,
and a cool breeze awakens drooping leaves from slumber
luring them into a sprightly, orchestrated dance,
as the coy drizzle mutates to a vehement downpour
drowning everything under rains’ symphony.
How I love to gaze dreamily through the half opened windows
when the mist on my blurry visions dissipate,
and watch a sated nature flaunting the precious afterglow
now being fully adorned in a raindrop necklace,
as wrinkled seeds of hopes are bestowed with a new right to sprout
by the ethereal magic of monsoon ‘s first rain.

A beautifully descriptive verse describing perfectly the beginnings of monsoon season, and nature’s vast and impressive moves in change and diversity. Impeccable phrasing and imagery dear poet, as if we are standing by your side in witness. Excellent work Anjana. Kudos.

Beautiful. Nice way to take weather’s anger and paint it so well. Really enjoyed the serpent line, I thoughthought that was very clever. Excellent piece my friend.
