A Lullaby For My Daughter
A Lullaby For My Daughter
A LULLABY FOR MY DAUGHTER…….
The sun has retired to his far away abode
after a long day of wandering in the skies,
as night begins to knit a wooly black blanket
to snuggly wrap a worn out world,
and the arms of sleep beckon like a loving mother
to embrace all those who long for her comfort.
Yonder, the moon shines as a solitary lantern
resembling a luminous silver plate,
and stars wink like a bunch of naughty children
who are contemplating a trifling mischief,
while forlorn clouds merge forming an angel’s outline
vowing to keep us all safe under her wings.
Blissfully, you lie in the cradle of my arms
as sheltered as a pearl in its crusty shell,
while the wind joins me in singing you a lullaby
whistling softly as it rustles tree leaves,
as you shut your little eyes contentedly
holding close my love in butterfly kisses.
As the floodgates of milky dreams open
drenching you in their magical and sweet charms,
beautiful and vibrant images float all around
in lands where virtues always conquer evil’s harm,
as you trudge over a fading bridge of rainbows
to wake up in the lap of better tomorrows.

Thank you dear Anjana.
Awaaa! so so very sweet!!! each verse has a magic its own! what I truly love about this Anjana, that it speaks to a child’s mind the best! opens her imagination the way children like and need to, on the other hand holding so much warmth and soft tune to relax the child, Your last verse is fantastic! it’s not easy to write for children, but Your poem is cleverly done, smart and brilliant! great work my dear!! now I hope Your little one did fall asleep and didn’t keep on asking You about the starry naughty children lol
To tell you the truth, I have not sung it to her yet..It is something i wish she would read and understand when she is a bit older..and now she is more fond of bedtime stories than lullabies and we make a deal that after one story she should go to sleep..so far, it has worked..but keeping fingers crossed for the future:)thank you once again for your most encouraging and kind words..I am most grateful as always for your visit..
Dear Anjana, I just read this again and it is so lovely, so endearing. It reminds me of the days when my daughter was a babe and little girl. I sure miss you and your beautiful poetry. Hope all is well in your life. Take care.
