From the Pages of my Scrapbook…

FROM THE PAGES OF MY SCRAPBOOK…….

FROM THE PAGES OF MY SCRAPBOOK

In a neglected, dusty corner of my mind

an old scrapbook lies among the cobwebs,

its pages partially devoured by the termites of time

and the endearing notes now barely legible,

as I try to read the lines with brimming eyes

to reminisce who I once was.

Rewinding the kaleidoscope of memories

I smile at that timid, plain looking girl,

dressed in an ill fitting school uniform

of white blouse and pleated blue skirt,

her unruly hair harshly made to tow the line

by being tightly bound with blue ribbons.

Vaguely, i remember the crowded classrooms

where everything revolved around periodic bell chimes,

the eavesdropping walls which absorbed all girly gossips

and ink stained desks scarred with budding artistry,

where each day began with a prayer of gratitude

and ended with squeals of joy and excitement.

How I savoured  the fresh smell of new text books

and kept candy wrappers betwixt notebook pages,

listened in awe as the rain pounded on school roof

and watched sunbeams slide in through big windows,

believed the playground swings would one day take me to the skies

and peacock feathers would multiply if kept from light.

Blissful, were those evergreen school days

when I could view everything in vibrant hues,

when love and innocence reigned as mind’s sole rulers

and friendships were made to last for a lifetime,

as I realize somewhere along those long corridors

I have left a piece of my heart forever.

Lovely memories of who we once were, our growing up and early years as we find ourselves. Beautifully rendered verse and pictures of your days as a child, memories wafting in and out of our consciousness and making us realize how far we’ve come. Beautiful work Anjana
