In Summer’s Gifts

In Summer's Gifts
In Summer’s Gifts

Summer touches those senses,
long prevented from experience,
lingering memories of chilled nights and dull days,
replaced by the sting of sun, a shimmering haze
and deepest blue with strewn white clouds,
transform our ways and expectation.

How delicate the nuance of change,
that scent of summer’s residing allure,
cicadas hum like choirs reside,
as day begins and golden sun does rise,
to eloquent words of birdsong,
imbuing waken moments.

Alive we wake to delicious light,
as if the sun’s plight so rearranged,
as heaven opens another door,
and fresh the breath of day assures
us of our freedom bounds,
lost in the afferent will of the season.

From slumber we are drenched of light,
morning beckons our waking sight
to relish all there is,
and appreciate the open day,
the vast and beauteous earth display
to enliven our very souls.

In clarity we join the throng of living,
winter’s tight and woolen wraps,
discarded days of insular traps,
where fires and books reside,
under chill of winter’s ride,
now cast aside, for our season of activity.

Summer’s promise our rescue,
as spring delivered the new,
and now in growth we reside in joy,
to make the best of life in stride of all it can be,
as we rekindle the view,
remember what possibilities ensues, in summer’s gifts.
