An escape of the soldiers kind

Escape of the soldiers kind

Words reach silently from the bloodied soldier
his lips forming thoughts of death
his dreams though left behind at home
just there behind his final breath

He closes his eye’s for just a moment and
gasps as he feels the gods coming round
he want’s so desperately for one last touch
and to listen to her singing voice and sound

He watches as the enemy that he’s so  dreaded
makes his way so near
and just before the final thrust of sword
the soldier offers  a tear

And the enemy with sword raised  finds a
moment of mercy and kneels  beside
he finds a moment of pity
and that’s where his wrath shall hide

A soldier dies a warriors death an enemy learns
how to  find his heart
And the words choking the mind spring forth
and death performs it’s part

So young soldier find your courage  there are none
who wait longer than you to find
the reason for it all and nothing more
an escape of the soldiers  kind

Sometime in my life, I started to write about my life journey, in poetry, in story perhaps to sort them out and enter them into a place of safekeeping. The soul of the writer is perhaps best described in their words, emotions and thoughts. If these poems or stories touch something inside you then maybe I have succeeded in sharing. I will not write about my self in profile, because self isn't so important in writing. Only the journey in words and the sharing are important. Why would we say "Now about me!"... I'd rather write about life, nature, serenity ...

Very nicely phrased and constructed Ed, I really enjoyed the feel and intent of the work. A poignant and emotive verse very much enjoyed my friend. Cheers!

Very well rendered verse, Ed. A warrior’s death which gave the enemy emotions to touch his heart. Well done my friend.

A different slant on a warriors death, but one which you’ve penned quite well. Thanks for sharing
