To Be the Observer

To Be the Observer
To Be the Observer

To be the observer,
not fraught by the calamities of life,
is yet another perspective,
untethered by personal connections
yet seeing what ensues,
like watching a river surge,
each waves and crest tumultuous
yet we upon the shore, untouched.

It is a challenge though,
to refrain from participation,
yet observe every nuance and turn,
as people go through crises,
and we so close to the vortex
yet not swept into that emotional state,
and so one can observe the chaos
with a steady mind and heart.

The disconcerting part
is knowing what is happening,
but unable to save anyone from themselves,
and as innocents fall,
feeling the guilt of ineptitude;
as I have tried to explain,
to warn of immanent circumstances,
yet no-one truly listens.

It’s like talking to a wall,
and that glazed over look
of non acceptance just frustrates,
as nothing changes,
only my conclusions as an observer;
so I remain detached,
I often try to intercede
but are rarely heard or believed.

Now, after many years
I am my own observer,
as I watch circumstances and crises manifest,
yet I am stilled, calm and displaced,
able to watch the intention of others
and imbalances rectified,
while I sit aside and accept the flow
rather than be within the mayhem.

This a blessing,
and in the calm of my mind
I deal with my life,
always trying to observe the truth,
and learn why we do what we do,
and most importantly, the lessons within,
to make better a world
in need of understanding,
and the soothing of love’s grace.

The observer with a calm mind learns more than the players who participate in drama and crisis of their own making. Excellent verse, Tony. Well done.

I am the ultimate people watcher Tony – I am the observer of those that live their lives around me and it fascinates me so. Thank you for sharing this insight into your life as well.

Glad you enjoyed the work Kurt, I guess as writers being an observer is important, as what we see we write about. Cheers!
