The Place of Money in a Spiritual Life

The Place of Money in a Spiritual Life
The Place of Money in a Spiritual Life

There is nothing that money creates that is positive,
the wanting of it, the striving for it,
the lording of it and thinking provoked by it,
all negative and placating what’s important in life,
for money, although a necessity for living,
for being a part of society,
and sharing the burden of its maintenance,
is in itself just the propagation of consumerism,
the heart of a system that stifles spiritual growth
and a rightful path in life.

Our dreams are not based on money,
they are the circumstances within which
we think we would find happiness,
and ultimately that includes money,
to find place, to find status,
to find a worry free life that money both feeds
and upholds in circumstance,
yet this is a delusion as money does not buy happiness,
does not make us worry free, or even secure,
happiness is simply a decision, a spiritual perspective.

In essence, money means little,
we can have as much as we want
as the universe cares not about our wealth or poverty,
that circumstance is ours to create with our thinking,
but in the end, no matter our circumstances,
our happiness and security comes from within,
a viewpoint dependent upon our understanding
and gratitude for this opportunity of life,
as the clothes we wear cannot convey
what we are underneath.

Pursuing wealth just placates energy,
distracts our lives from what is truly important,
who we are, who we love and the connections
we make with fellow travelers,
in this, our chosen path of life,
our circumstances molded by our thoughts,
not our bank account balance,
as all circumstance flows from what we want,
and that includes money,
but it is not the center of our world, just a means.

Happiness is afforded through choice,
through appreciating whatever we have
and nurturing love as our greatest gift.
