Ego Aside, an Honest Expression

Time exacerbates a purpose,
always a sense of running out,
an urgent self-determination to continue the work,
keep sharing the meanings and views of life,
experience and the lessons one endures
as a consequence of learning.
As an artisan of any creative pursuit,
the ego is always an aspect to keep in mind,
as we all have to have a persona,
a tangible face to the expression,
yet ego can become maladjusted,
becoming a path for its own praise and worth.
Clarity and honesty, especially for a writer,
must be fee from the stance of ego,
in that expression is for its own reward,
rather than the sought praise from readers,
rendering false ideals of self-importance
and stifling the work.
I have over the years
honed a process of creative expression,
free from distraction and pure in source,
and to me, each passage, poem or piece
is unencumbered and as clean as it can be,
given the human consciousness.
Not magic, just hard work
gave this advantage to me,
and I now reap the rewards of being true to self,
within the parameters
of my propensities and experience,
furnishing truth as I see it.
The ego, although remaining,
lives mostly in the background,
and the older I get the less I need to prove
anything to anyone at all,
expressing my genuine views and understandings
to hopefully inspire others on a spiritual path.
Amount of readers, statistics and accolades
cease to matter when the work is honest and genuine,
and no matter my personal undulations in life,
the work is unaffected,
each thought delivered in the freedom of a soul
to find peace and place within another heart.

Wisdom does come with age. To be open to learning, seeking and growing must always be a life purpose. This is why reading your works, Tony, greatly helps one on their spiritual path when the heart and mind is open. Great work, my friend. Take care.
Much appreciated Phyllis, thank you for your kind words of support. Cheers!
Tony, this rings so true. Indeed, as we age, the less we feel the need to prove ourselves to others. Beautifully expressed thoughts, as always in your case. I enjoyed reading it.
Too kind Emese, and I appreciate your thoughtful words of support. Take care.
