Atlas Shrugged – Coming Soon
Atlas Shrugged
A tale once considered fantasy
Now perhaps a hint of reality…
People defying regulation
Angry mobs and devastation
Job creators on the wire
Taxes growing ever higher
Global markets draw their ire
Social policies under fire
Corporate titans, business giants
Careful balance; sales and clients
Handcuffed by regulatory compliance
From small bureaucratic tyrants
Continued weight upon those shoulders
Workers seem to think they’re soldiers
Concerns from the stockholders
Social justice warriors getting bolder
Trying to abolish open speech
Expecting agreement as they speak
Regardless if it’s based on fact
Talk too loud and you’ll be sacked
Afraid to speak against junk science
Preferring to work alone in silence
Productivity hits the wall
People stop watching football
More cigarettes and alcohol
Infrastructure about to fall
“All is well,” says the man in charge
Another lie, by and large
While cold war looms on the skyline
Defense building on the coastlines
Generals plotting battle lines
Until our fears are genuine
Important questions get no answers
Rational selfishness the newfound cancer
Political Parties now speak the same
Deception and deceit the modern game
Telling people more of the same
The economy swirling down the drain
Parasites, moochers, modern looters
Screaming from behind computers
Demanding benefits for doing nothing
Threatening violence with fists-a-pumping
Everyone finger pointing, claiming fault
Wonder still, “Who is John Gault?”
Author’s Notes
Atlas Shrugged is a dystopian novel written by Ayn Rand in 1957, in which the job creators and industrialists get fed up with government regulation. They simply decide to stop everything and pull back; closing businesses which pre-empt an economic collapse. Atlas is the personification of the American Business leader, which “holds the weight of the world on his shoulders,” primarily because they create jobs, wealth, and stability. The book is the origin of the phrase, “Who is John Gault?” Which sarcastically means: “Don’t ask important questions, because we don’t have answers”; or more broadly, “What’s the point?” or “Why bother?”.

Very well penned piece about John Galt and protests against government regulation. Great job, Ralph.
It has always seemed to be unpopular with government for people to have their own minds. Great work on the word crafting and rhyme.
Dystopian writers scenarios are coming so true in the possibility of economic collapse of major first world countries. The world is on the brink, and all it would take is one or two billionaires who control most water and food production worldwide, to withhold funds and ‘pop goes the weasel’. Nicely rendered and actually frightening how tenuous our path is at present.
Wow! How truly frightening this could be! Well done Ralph….
