The Child In-Between

The Child In-Between
The Child In-Between

The child between two worlds,
feels connected to both,
yet incomplete
the street with two sides,
is walked in the middle,
and what does this mean,
this displacement of soul,
this ill-sought dream
that keeps one from the other.

Why does he not belong to one,
strewn thoughts asunder between
one and the other, yet half of him fits,
but not the whole,
the soul still wanting,
the mind still pondering
what he is,
caught between two worlds,
the child in the middle?

And as he grows older,
the same wretched trend follows,
living between two worlds
is hard to swallow,
between diplomat and artist,
musician and business man,
all he can to stay afloat,
yet the soul still wanting,
caught in a game he cannot play for long.

Then in purpose found
he betrays what’s expected,
elects to create in words his fate,
and whole he has become,
lost no more from what he cannot relate,
to mediate his soul, and choose
his path bereft of so many people
he must let go,
to be true to himself.

How foreign this earthly coil,
just a part of him resides,
and much beyond this realm
lingers in memory,
lost to the temporary physical life,
the strife he must endure, here,
before he finds his whole,
the realities of this old soul,
still resounding strong in the past.

Tony this work spoke to me, I’ve been that child in the middle most of my life and still struggle to find common ground. Almost lost within myself at times, struggling to be free of my pasts clutches upon me. My saving grace has been a gift given to me to let go in expression of words. A poet caught in the middle of two worlds, an old, and an ever revolving one. Sometimes spinning so fast, I just want to jump off.

    “How foreign this earthly coil,
just a part of him resides,
    and much beyond this realm
    lingers in memory.”

Biting words of truth Tony. An excellent photo, I see myself in that boy. a crumpled up soul.

I so strongly believe that one must always remain true to Self. This is where truth and love begins and from where it can spread out to others. Very nicely penned verse, Tony, and oh so true.

Most wonderful poetry. Being true to oneself is the first step to being satisfied with life.

    Tony,

You voice my own thoughts so perfectly; so eloquently. I feel this way, too! Due to my upbringing, my identity has always been a bit fragile, not ever quite knowing who I am, or where I belong. I never have felt like I fit in, anywhere, except here, (on TCE) because people understand me here! I feel like I understand you all, too!

I am always somewhere in the clouds, yet I’m suppose to be grounded down here. Sometimes I feel like an alien! Thank you for this very artistic poem with such depth, and understanding.

    Hugs!

So glad you relate Tamara, yes we all find common ground in our creativity here and that is a deep connection where we do understand one another. So pleased you appreciate my expression as do I, yours. Take care Tamara and have a great day!
