Let Me Fly, Earth No Longer My Tether

Let Me Fly, Earth No Longer My Tether
Let Me Fly, Earth No Longer My Tether

I feel the grit in my teeth,
the dark residue of life’s realities,
as opposed to flesh as it can be,
like a foreign invader at large,
nestled deep within me,
ever reminding me of past,
the raw state of my becoming,
the base state of my
earthling betrayal;
and the lowly paths of past
echo like some distant storm,
always at the brink of play,
and I feel that tether,
that chain of weighty capture
that keeps a soul who dreams to fly,
earthbound.

My soul aches, my heart bleeds,
and grit is all that holds
this path on track,
for earthling I am born, yet
as alien I must fly,
before the tethers dry
in a sun too harsh and dreams awry,
that have my mind so tamed,
when all I want is release,
to soar the skies of my other worlds,
planets now gone yet home felt,
memories that pull me from my lies,
as grit does sympathize,
bind me to my human eyes
that see but one reality,
of many.

I peer into endless space,
stars like Braille to my blindness,
and heart enlivened,
knowing where my beginnings lay,
far from my earthly lair,
but care I do for those memories
that stir my hybrid heart,
mind aloft in dreams
to start a higher pursuit,
to placate my wanting soul,
and let that grit fall into lost memories,
where struggle on this rock
needs no lament,
but the freedom of flight.

Aw but to fly away, release the bondage, the chains holding us to our earthly home. Alien we often feel indeed. Wanting to fly back to whence we came, this experience on earth often a true letdown. This journey here has been burdensome in so many ways, yet it’s a journey from a 1000 years of travel. The curiosity of where we go next has always excited me. I agree the grit is built into our DNA yet when do we crossover to our alien birthright? Nicely expressed Tony, cheers.
