The fibre of your being
Fiber of your Being
A chance fragrance could touch a nerve that’s raw
Bring back emotions long-forgotten to the fore
And suddenly you realize all at once
There are others who’ve felt the love that comes
From deep ties that are rooted in the past
Ties that never break, that past the grave will last
Emotions you thought belonged just to you
But other hearts have divined that feeling too
You wonder if you’ll ever get over this feeling
This part of you in the very fibre of your being
You try, you hope to feel its pull no more
You forget this ache is so much a part of your core
A moment is all it takes to surge and surface
And it’s back, pure pain and pleasure, you’re just helpless.

Very deep piece on lost love – I read it, then read it several more times, each time gaining more perspective on your inner sadness…very touching
Thanks so much for reading! It feels great to be back and writing here after a break!
You are not alone in this message of despair and lost love, many of us still this day feel its closeness. There is no real comfort in past memories tarnished from lost love, it only brings up pain, we would prefer to never have happened. I felt this was an emotion write for you Shalini, peace to your soul, Namaste.
Thank you, Vincent! Even though the Now we live in is great, I guess there are chinks that let the past through at times.
This is a very stirring piece on a deep love that is now gone. The pain comes back at unexpected times and it hurts all over again. Very emotionally packed sonnet, Shalini.
Phyllis – thanks so much for reading and commenting!
Shalini, there are always things that unexpectedly bring back memories (both good and bad) of the past, like a fragrance you mention. Emotions can be sparked so easily. Wonderful poem. Welcome back.
Strange games our minds play indeed and all it takes is a tiny trigger to bring up emotions we think are long buried! Thank you for reading, John and it feels great to be back.
