Day’s End, Another Pledge

Like diaphanous wings a blur in flight,
does shimmer a long days end in light,
across waters orange jewels glisten,
and skies descend to night’s whisper, listen,
as fading embers descend to velvet,
and shadow stretch envelop jealous light,
to announce the close of day.
The hum of insects at water’s edge,
imbue the fading light to beg,
slumber strike all living brethren,
rest in plight in a nestled heaven,
as lights from houses rowed and many,
give warm visage on cold street silence,
as fire’s warm the hearts of those inside.
The close of day another door opened,
the gloaming rich now faded, broken,
to studded purple endless sky,
blinking distant radiant eyes,
and all is quiet as night ensues,
as moon does rise and light peruse,
the transformation grand.
The chill descends on days gentle grace,
as beckoned slumber leaves not a trace,
and dreams unfold in afferent scenes,
fight-ed thoughts and flowing streams,
to rest those pangs and stresses bared,
to sleep with angels
in gentle loving care.
And pledge the night to awaken day in time,
and life rise up once more in perfect rhyme,
to greet all life in wondrous golden hues,
wiping slumber from eyes renewed,
to surrender heart and soul to be.

May your morning greet you in “perfect rhyme”, dear poet, and may your day be as lovely as this verse you wrote so eloquently. Take care.
And to you, who so well embrace my words and thoughts. Thank you Phyllis and have a wonderful day.
Once again you have mastered the written word articulately… Very much enjoyed.
Much appreciated Kurt, glad you enjoyed it my friend. Cheers!
Tony,
This is beautiful writing. I love the thought of “… to surrender heart and soul to be”, and “…purple endless sky”. Well, I just love it all!
Pleased you enjoyed it so much Tamara, your kind words and support very much appreciated. Take care
There is something so splendid about a days end. I often watch the setting sun and thank our creator for giving me another day of rest. Leaving the suns warming grace to meet up with the stars and moon in darkest of space is a blessing and reprieve of another day given. To pen as you do is a gift given to add the sparkle from the stars we are given. You endear us to your service of loving each day and night like it is heaven. Thank you for sharing your beauty with us Tony, a good nights rest is yours hopefully given.
Thanks Vincent, and yes I’ve sleeping much better. So glad you enjoyed this one. I do love descriptive poetry on nature. We have much to learn from it. Cheers!
